Mother Warming

Mother warming is a process done from days 5-10 following birth. A moxibustion stick is lit and moved upwards along the midline from the pubic synthesis to the umbilicus. Holding the moxa stick 1-2cm away from the skin. To extinguish smother with aluminum foil or in sand and place in a sealed glass jar.

The reason the herb is used is because it warms from the inside outwards, allowing optimal healing and encouraging blood flow to an area. This treatment can be done in the comfort of your own home and helps bring the reproductive organs back to where they were prior to pregnancy and prevent abdominal separation. It also feels amazingly warm and nourishing as the abdomen can feel cold and an emptiness once the baby is born.

The moxibustion stick can also be used to help caesarean scars heal. Treatment of yhe caesarean scar is important for long term gynecological health, however I recommend getting practitioner approval prior to insure no infection is present and it is ok to commence.

Abdominal Massage

This is a beautiful massage sequence that is not only designed for postnatal care as well as general reproductive health. The massage stimulates blood flow, support digestion and the reproductive system.

If you have the ‘Love Mum X’ postpartum care box and received the massage oil this can be used for the abdominal massage. Postnatal massage is a lovely practice to help the muscles and ligaments go back to the pre pregnancy position, as well as encouraging the body to eliminate any blood that needs to be expelled and move any stagnation in the digestive system / bowels. Often the abdomen feels cold in the weeks following birth and this is a nice way to warm the area to encourage regular flow and healing. It is a nice practice for the mother to do, honouring her body and the achievement of growing human life. It helps calm anxiety and can be a meditative practice. A partner or caregiver could also do this to the new mother. You can stay on each move as long as you feel necessary.
